Tejon Ranch Conservancy

Tejon Ranch Conservancy protects and restores the ecological integrity of Tejon Ranch through conservation, education, and stewardship, ensuring its natural beauty and biodiversity are preserved for future generations.

Explore Tejon Ranch through art in this hands-on cyanotype workshop with artist Rhonda Burton. 🎨 Learn this sun-print process using native plants and natural materials gathered from the ranch’s diverse landscapes. We will explore the botanically rich are of the Sierra Nevada interface. Each participant will make artworks that they can take home. Materials are included in this workshop. Current Artist in Residence, Rhonda Burton is a Los Angeles–based artist whose work explores the calming, restorative beauty of the garden through photography and mixed media; her close-focus imagery of petals, succulents, and leaves emphasizes color, pattern, and texture, which she enhances by printing on fine art paper, hand-embellishing with colored pencil or pastel, layering rice paper, and mounting on wood or canvas beneath acrylic. After an early career in watercolor and teaching, she returned to art decades later to reimagine botanical details using collage, mono prints, and cyanotype techniques informed by a Wabi-Sabi appreciation for imperfection. Your registration supports the Conservancy’s work to preserve Tejon Ranch’s wildlife, open spaces, and cultural history. No prior art experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to spend time outdoors. ------------------------------------------- * Permits are subject to approval by Tejon Ranch Company. Tejon Conservancy submits a list of all guests to TRC several days prior, so no substitutions, additions, or refunds are available. Per TRC policy, no pets or smoking permitted. All guest names will need to be submitted for approval by our landowner ahead of time; no last-minute substitutions or additions can be accommodated. Any vehicle travel on the Ranch must be done using a Conservancy vehicle. A staff member or docent must be present with your group at all times during the visit.🌿

Cross Ranch Biodiversity Tour

Join us on Tejon Ranch for a relaxed evening of nature journaling as the sun sets over the hills. This event is all about learning the basics—no art experience needed. We'll focus on slowing down and really observing the landscape using three simple prompts: I notice... I wonder... This reminds me of... These questions are at the heart of nature journaling and help you connect with what's around you, whatever your skill level. Bring whatever materials you like—pens, colored pencils, watercolors, pastels, or anything else. This is a self-guided experience, so settle in, take your time, and enjoy the golden light of a June evening on the grasslands. What to bring: your favorite materials, a light layer for the cooler evening air, and curiosity. You'll leave with a journal full of sketches and observations, not a finished masterpiece. This workshop is made possible by a grant from the California Arts Council and the Kern Arts Council.
