A white church with a steeple stands prominently in the midground, surrounded by a village and trees under a hazy sky.

The Troy Historical Society

LXCL:The Troy Historical Society preserves and promotes Troy's rich history through education, exhibits, and community engagement.

Tavern Takeout is back! Gather around good food while supporting The Troy Historical Society and the restoration of the Overfield Tavern—Troy’s original gathering place. This year’s meal will be prepared by Chef Bryan Begg of Smoke Alley Barbecue and Bakehouse Bread & Cookie Co., both of which are also generously sponsoring the event. The menu features a grilled Duroc pork chop, sautéed cabbage, cornbread, and spiced baked apples for $40 per meal. Local apple cider is also available for an additional $3. Proceeds from Tavern Takeout support The Troy Historical Society and the ongoing restoration of the Overfield Tavern, which was severely damaged by fire in December 2024. Built in 1808, the Overfield Tavern is Troy’s oldest building and one of the oldest buildings in Miami County. It served as an early tavern, community gathering place, and Troy’s first courthouse. Food and community have always been at the heart of the Overfield Tavern. For more than two centuries, the Tavern has been a place where people gathered to share meals, conversation, news, and community life. Tavern Takeout carries that tradition forward, bringing people together around good food in support of our shared local history. Tavern Takeout serves as The Troy Historical Society’s major annual fundraiser while the fire-damaged Tavern is unable to host our traditional Yuletide Dinners. Meal pickup will take place Saturday, October 24, in front of St. Patrick’s Soup Kitchen in Troy. Share a good meal. Support local history. Help us restore Troy’s original gathering place.
