NYC Century Bike Tour

Bicycle marshals play a critical leadership role in group rides, actions, and events across New York City. They help keep riders safe, maintain group cohesion, and communicate clearly with both riders and the public. This four-hour in-person course will give you the skills, confidence, and real-world practice needed to support rides of all types. If you&#39;re a confident rider, you&#39;re ready to become a marshal. No prior experience is required, and all are welcome and encouraged to participate. Throughout the training, participants will learn the core responsibilities of a marshal, including how to navigate intersections, manage different types of rides, and support riders of varying comfort and skill levels. We&rsquo;ll also cover how to communicate effectively using a shared set of verbal cues and hand signals. You&rsquo;ll gain a basic understanding of bike safety checks and simple mechanics, and you&rsquo;ll learn what to do in case of a crash, injury, or other emergency. After each core section of the course, we&rsquo;ll immediately apply what we&rsquo;ve learned with practical exercises in small groups throughout the surrounding neighborhood. This training is led by experienced TA Marshal leaders and all participants will receive a Transportation Alternatives Marshal Training Certificate of Completion. The tour will also pass several locations of sensors and intercept surveys from the recently-completed Greenway User Study. The Tour will start in Brooklyn Bridge Park near the corner of Old Fulton Street and Furman Street (near Pier 1), travel along the Greenway to Red Hook, then backtrack and go through DUMBO, Williamsburg, and Greenpoint, ending near the Newtown Barge Playground. Ride Distance: 9.5 miles 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM | Walking Tour: NEW and Future Western Queens Infrastructure Walking Tour | Start: Broadway & 31st Street (NW corner)| End: Queens Plaza South & Crescent StreetTake a walking tour of recently installed street infrastructure in Queens. The tour will cover the Crescent Street protected bike lane, the new 31st Avenue Bike Boulevard, and the planned Queens Waterfront Greenway. We will also visit the yet-to-open Queensboro Bridge South Outer Walkway. This tour offers a closer look at the evolving transportation and bike infrastructure in the area. Expect an approximately three mile walk.

Transportation Alternatives Bicycle Marshal Training Bicycle marshals help keep group rides and actions across NYC safe, organized, and moving smoothly. This four-hour, in-person training covers the core skills you need to support rides of all sizes. You&rsquo;ll learn how to navigate intersections, manage group dynamics, communicate with clear verbal cues and hand signals, perform basic bike safety checks, and respond to crashes or emergencies. Each section includes hands-on practice in the neighborhood.No prior experience is required &mdash; if you&rsquo;re a confident rider, you&rsquo;re ready.&nbsp; The training is free for volunteers who want to marshal upcoming rides with Transportation Alternatives. All participants receive a certificate of completion.
