Sandra Lo: Seeing in Color
Sandra Lo: Seeing in Color presents work by Bay Area painter Sandra Lo, whose practice draws on close observation, memory, and the shifting light of everyday scenes. Each piece invites you to slow down and notice how color carries mood, distance, and time. Every purchase directly supports both Sandra and Underpainting Collective. The show runs Sept 26 through Dec 18, 2026, with an opening reception on Oct 3 from 5–7 PM and an artist talk on Nov 14 at 3126 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley. To visit the gallery outside these events, please email info@underpainting.org to set up an appointment.About SandraSandra first learned to paint as a young girl in China, taught by her father. After a decade in Hong Kong, she made her home in the Bay Area, where she paints figures from life and landscapes en plein air. Over the years, that practice has grown into a body of more than 800 works. What stands out most is her confidence with the brush and her inventive use of color, whether she's painting portraits, figures, or landscapes.About Underpainting CollectiveUnderpainting Collective is a cooperatively run art center in Berkeley dedicated to creative community and high-quality instruction in drawing and painting. Founded in 2024 to carry on the legacy of the Oakland Atelier School of Classical Realism (est. 1969), we're run entirely by volunteers. Proceeds from this show help keep observational drawing and painting instruction accessible in the East Bay.Learn more at underpainting.org or follow us on Instagram @underpaintingcollective
