Waves of Color

LXCL:Waves of Color's mission is to support the next generation of women as surf leaders, coaches, mentors &amp; competitors. We offer scholarships, surf and ocean education, mentorship resouces &amp; opportunities for surf skill development.

Join a team of women in San Diego for an on-land surf media clinic designed to introduce and build skills needed for surf photography, videography, and drone operation. Whether you&#39;re a beginner or looking to build confidence in, this workshop will provide practical knowledge, mentorship, and community. Following the educational session, participants will have the opportunity to apply their new skills during a community surf session, capturing surfers in action while receiving real-time guidance. Waves of Color events welcome ALL WOMEN &amp; non-binary people who are comfortable in a space centered on women&#39;s experiences. You must be 18 years or older to attend. Rebecca Barnes&nbsp;is the Co-Founder of Neptuna Terra <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.instagram.com/neptuna_terra/" id="isPasted" rel="noopener noreferrer noopener noreferrer noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">@neptuna_terra</a>, a women&rsquo;s surf collective based in San Diego. She enjoys supporting women in advancing their surf skills through filming and surf video analysis. Neptuna Terra supports women in surfing through coaching, retreats, and surf progression clinics. Natalie Silance&nbsp;is lifelong local surfer, FAA Part 107 licensed drone pilot, and the creative force behind <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.instagram.com/sandyeggosurf/" id="isPasted" rel="noopener noreferrer noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: currentcolor; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">@sandyeggosurf</a> on Instagram. Natalie serves as a certified Head Judge for the RECF Aerial Drone Competitions and co-coaches an award winning middle school drone team within the San Diego Unified School District. Bri Chew&nbsp;is a photographer based in San Diego. We hope to change the tide by being a leading organization to focus on supporting women and their surf journey. We want to offer surf and ocean educational opportunities, as well as surf coach certification scholarships and funding to help women compete in surf competitions locally.Your donations have already helped cover essential start-up costs for the non-profit and supported the founders (Helen & Stephanie) in becoming International Surf Association (ISA) certified coaches. This certification has helped us obtain the ISA surf coach qualification and required surf safety certification, complete the surf coaching curriculum that is recognized worldwide, and provide educational opportunities for our communities.We hope to use what we learn to not only launch Waves of Color, but to provide on-going support for women who obtain ISA surf instructor certification scholarships through this nonprofit and our future programming. After two summers of retreats along the Oregon coast in partnership with a nonprofit, Trail Mixed Collective, we saw the need for more lasting support. What started as seasonal gatherings grew into surf mentorships, community surf meet-ups, and off-season activities like surf skating, paddle boarding, and virtual surf education.Through this work, co-founders Helen and Stephanie connected, and Helen’s mentorship helped Stephanie build confidence in surfing and her relationship with the ocean.
