What If Works

LXCL:What if Works is a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization offering artists in theatre, film, and music a bridge between academic and professional performance while championing the arts to bring about social change.

🎭&nbsp;How long does a warning remain hypothetical before inaction becomes participation?&nbsp; The Weight of Dust examines the 1983 San Ger&oacute;nimo mining disaster in Peru and its legacy. Octavio Valdivia, the company owner, and his children originally concealed safety failures and threats to preserve their reputation, eventually declaring the mentally declining &nbsp;Octavio incapable of maintaining control. Years later, Octavio&rsquo;s daughter Luc&iacute;a and journalist Morales Jr. set out to investigate the catastrophe, revealing the layers of fabricated reports that followed. Playing the collective voice of Rebekah Taussig, three actors, each with her own specific disability, &ldquo;Sitting Pretty&rdquo;&nbsp;comes alive in an exhilarating and thought-provoking production, underscoring the enormous contribution people with disabilities can offer in an ableist society.&nbsp;Sitting Pretty&rdquo; marks the inaugural production of WIW&rsquo;s &ldquo;The Next Chapter&rdquo;, a platform upon which authors of full-length literary works are introduced to new audiences. Once again, WIW promises the community a very different theatre experience.

Based on the book of the same name by Carla Albano, &ldquo;Soul of a Swimmer&rdquo; is the captivating story of Nicholas Dworet, a standout high school swimmer with Olympian prospects who demonstrated that falling through the cracks does not always signal the end of hope.&nbsp; Leaning on courage and self-determination, Nicholas pulled himself out of a relentless downward spiral through the support of others. His return to competitive swimming became a motivating source of inspiration for many young athletes, teammates, and competitors alike.&nbsp; Tragically, Nicholas Dworet was 1 of 17 students at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School to lose their lives to an active shooter on Valentine&rsquo;s Day 2018.
