Donate Today Whitewater Valley Railroad www.whitewatervalleyrr.org WHY THIS DEPOT MATTERS The historic Ritchie (North Ritchie) Wabash Railroad Depot once served the Wabash Railroad&rsquo;s Chicago&ndash;Decatur line, connecting rural communities and supporting Midwestern agriculture. Known in railroad records as North Ritchie or Ballou, this small wood-frame depot represents the modest but essential stations that helped build the Midwest. For generations, depots like Ritchie were gathering places&mdash;where farmers shipped grain and livestock, families met arriving passengers, and communities connected to the wider world. Very few of these rural structures survive today. Relocating the depot to Metamora, Indiana will allow it to once again stand beside active railroad tracks within a living heritage environment. Restored and interpreted, it will serve as a tangible reminder of the transportation networks that shaped our region and fueled its economic growth.
