They remember ancient migration routes, water sources, and feeding areas, but as human settlements expand, these same instincts increasingly bring them into conflict with people. Today, around 415,000 African elephants remain in the wild. In Tanzania, protecting elephant populations means protecting both wildlife and the communities that share the landscape. At Wild Spirit USA, we work with local partners to monitor elephant movements and promote peaceful coexistence through science, technology, and veterinary medicine. Many rescued young apes are left orphaned and require years of specialised veterinary care and rehabilitation before they can safely return to the wild.
