As a young woman, I approach my life with constant vigilance: &nbsp;looking behind me when walking down the street, repeatedly rehearsing what I would do if a man broke into my apartment. However, my biggest fears revolve around those men who are closest to me, particularly in &nbsp;romantic and sexual encounters. Over three-quarters of female murder victims know their perpetrator intimately. Closer Than You&#39;d Think was created through the response, commentary, and catharsis around this fear. The script practically writes itself: girl meets boy, boy turns out to be crazy, girl gets murdered. I was especially excited to lean into the stresses that come with the world of cell phones and online dating. In fact, the entire script takes place on the phone and is meant to be done twice. The first time the audience watches Cassidy and can only hear her side of the conversation. Conversely, in Act Two, we only see and hear Steven&rsquo;s side of the conversation. The audience&rsquo;s inability to hear both sides of the dialogue at once allows me to manipulate their assumptions about each character based not on what is actually being said but rather on what they assume is being said. Originally mounted in 2021, the play has now been performed three times in various locations: a beautiful home tucked in the woods in Oregon, a one-bedroom apartment in the heart of Boston, and, most recently, in a two-story historic home in Stephen King&#39;s hometown - Bangor, Maine. With each iteration, the story remained the same but the the space recontextualized the narrative and changed the audience&#39;s relationship to the characters in ways I could never have imagined. I am excited to take these discoveries into the next iteration of this script.&nbsp; For those of you who saw the play, I think you will see the vision for the film version immediately. For those of you who haven&#39;t, this will be your chance to engage in what truly is the magnum opus of my young artistic life. Closer Than You&#39;d Think (film) will have jump scares, red herrings, a love story, clues everywhere, and a last-second plot twist - everything an audience could want from a horror movie. The only thing left to do is make it. I hope you&rsquo;ll join us.
