Make a gift today to the End Hunger Annual Fund: Help YSQC & Meiser's Nourish Equitable Community Food Systems Change.
Between January-October 2024 already, Meiser's Fresh Grocery & Deli has distributed more than 96k meals worth of free food to vulnerable Cincinnati neighbors through community-led work.
Finding a solution to food insecurity is one of the most challenging and important projects that a neighborhood can take on. That’s why Lower Price Hill neighbors banded together to create our nonprofit organization, Your Store of the Queen City, in 2019 – with a mission empowering neighborhood-based entities to expand fresh food access and create community-based jobs by supporting the development and networking of resident-centered, culturally and economically inclusive enterprises in food desert areas of Cincinnati, OH. They knew they needed a community-centered solution to food apartheid--and planned to create Meiser's Fresh Grocery & Deli as that solution.
What does that look like? Helping neighbors to come up with enterprise business plans, to design free food and nutrition learning programs, and to build capacity like funding, resources, partnerships and skills to make their dreams into a reality.
And why should food access need to be a dream for anyone?
It shouldn’t.
That’s why we need your support.
As Your Store of the Queen City approaches our 5th anniversary this year, we will not only be celebrating Meiser’s 3rd anniversary of operating affordable and free food programs in Lower Price Hill...
Looking ahead, we’re now honored to collaborate with partners from other food justice initiatives across Cincinnati.
Some are community-based groups in different neighborhoods that are working to open their own groceries similar to Meiser’s, and some are institutions that advance research or advocacy for equitable food access as an essential social determinant of health.
This is all being done through our strategic plan that many of you helped us create. However, we cannot do this work alone. Deepening impact and expanding reach (so that more neighbors can have the same food access that the Lower Price Hill community now has through Meiser’s) takes more resources than those needed just for operating Meiser’s alone.
We need your gifts of time, talent, treasure, networking and positive focus to spread the power to create neighborhood-based food access all across Cincinnati.
The problem of hunger doesn’t go away without the dedication of every person who has even the smallest gift to share, so that our communities can come together to support their own – and each other.
