Gemma's Hope is a small 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to providing practical resources to hospitals and hope to families after pregnancy and infant loss. Gemma's Hope operates out of Charlotte, North Carolina but serves all regions of the United States. We offer support and resources to families who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss. Run entirely by volunteers who have lost their own children, our Bereavement Book Cart program has donated over $23,000 to 19 North Carolina hospitals since 2022. These hospitals serve over 1,500 families every year who have lost a baby. Our 2025 goal is to raise $20,000 which will enable us to donate 100 Book Carts to small community hospitals with no bereavement resources for families!
How You Can Contribute
1) "Donate" to sponsor a Team or our General Fund
2) Create a Team by clicking "Fundraise" - you'll be send a fundraising link that you can share with friends, family, and on social media for people to donate to! There are zero costs or fees to fundraising this way!
3) Help us with volunteering, fundraising events, shopping our Amazon Wishlist for hospital supplies, and spreading awareness!
Book Carts cost anywhere from $150-$1000+ to start in a new hospital (small community hospitals ~$150, medium medical centers ~$500, large urban hospitals ~$1,000). The cost varies because we bring only the resources the hospital needs for the next 1-2 years. So even if there is a Book Cart in a hospital already, they still need continual funding to support their restock needs for next year. If you're starting a fundraiser we recommend starting with $500 as your goal.
About Bereavement Book Carts
These Book Carts contain grief books, resources, keepsake boxes & teddy bears, and small items like ink print kits to preserve baby’s hand and footprints forever. The carts are stocked and then donated to hospitals, where staff can roll into a patient’s room when a baby has died. Families are offered choices in books, stuffed animals, and memory making opportunities - these small gifts make a huge impact to families who have never had to go through this before. We've tried to take the guesswork and stress off of families and hospital staff to make things as simple and wholesome as possible so that they can soak up every second holding their sweet baby. Everything is free to families experiencing loss in the hospital - all paid for by generous donors like you. This "pay it forward" model has allowed us to sustain 21 Book Carts in 18 hospitals in North Carolina in less than 2 years!
Each Book Cart has a sticker on it with a baby's name - that baby's family helped fund the materials for the Book Cart. Their family, friends, colleagues, and local organizations pitched in to support the next family experiencing the devastating loss of a child. We celebrated over a dozen families that helped contribute to our cause and donated over $10,000 to make it happen.
