Each year, the Lowery Family honors Jake's memory by hosting a free community family-fun event with a food truck,  a 50/50 raffle, and a raffle for prizes. Also offered are resources encouraging open discussions about suicide and the need to create safe spaces to ask for help - no one should suffer in silence.  Furthering these goals, the Lowery Family donates all event proceeds to the nonprofit Mental Health America of Fredericksburg's Suicide Prevention Programs, supporting local teens. Please donate online if you want a tax receipt from MHAfred for your records or cannot attend but want to help ensure resources are available for local teens. All money raised during this annual event is donated to the nonprofit Mental Health America of Fredericksburg (MHAfred) because your donation stays here in our community, helping local teens who are at risk for suicide.  Their program, Suicide Prevention Education, partners with local schools to present the evidence-based curriculum Signs of Suicide (SOS), which has been proven to reduce the occurrence of suicide among teens. Starting in the 2025 school year, MHAfred will present SOS at all Stafford County middle and high schools. Currently, MHAfred presents SOS in Fredericksburg City, King George County Schools, and other partnering groups across our regions working with teens.  For more information about all of the services offered by MHAfred, call their office at 540-273-8455.
