She will be doing virtual presentations for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders on Thursday, December 7th.  Our book sale is open now until Sunday, December 10th at noon. All books will come with a bookplate signed by the author.  Raina’s book are kids’ favorites for 20 years! She’s best known for her graphic novels like Smile, Drama, and Guts, which draw on her memories of middle school. She got her break as the illustrator/adaptor of The Baby-Sitters Club. A big fan of the original Ann M. Martin books, Raina reimagined the series in graphic novel form, injecting color and energy into the beloved classics. Then she wrote her own books: first Smile, about a 6th grader who injures her front teeth, leading to braces, surgery, and social drama. Then Drama, about stars and stage crew of a middle drama club. Sisters is a funny look at siblings. In Ghosts, a girl who can see ghosts has Day of the Dead adventures. Her most recent book, Guts, is centered on anxiety, food, & school. The NYT said, “Guts is dedicated to ‘anyone who feels afraid.’ [For those folks, its] warmth, humanity, and humor provide a balm more soul-soothing than any pill.”
