What is Shingon Vajrayana&rsquo;s difference from Mahayana Buddhism and the sameness? What in Vajrayana is aligned with the Early Buddhism and what&rsquo;s beyond? We should be ready to answer to these questions.&nbsp;&nbsp;私たち真言密教の徒は、ただただ密教を信じていればいいというものではありません。真言密教を外側から観察する目を持つことも必要です。私の学問上の師、金剛峯寺第412世座主を務めら、また当代きっての学僧であられた松長有慶猊下は、真言宗の信徒は「弘法大師」の御名を聞くと、そこで思考停止してしまうところがあるが、そうであるべきではない、という旨のことを、しばしばおっしゃっておられました。密教と大乗仏教との違いは何か。同一性は何か。密教は、初期仏教にどこまで重なるのか。どこから超越するのか。これらの質問に、私たち真言密教信徒は、いつでも明快に答えられるべきではないでしょうか。 Lecturer: Dr. Casey Collins (Shingon monk&#39;s name: Ekai) Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Casey Collins moved to Vancouver in 2005 to study Asian languages and cultures at the University of British Columbia. He lived in Tokyo from 2009 through 2012 while working for a Buddhist lay organization that later became the subject of his graduate research on Japanese new religions, completing his doctorate in May 2023. Casey&#39;s ongoing research interests include sacred narratives, material culture, Japanese esoteric Buddhism, and new religions. Starting in July, Casey will begin working at the Vancouver School of Theology as Director of Inter-Religious Studies and Professor of Asian Religions.
