Crime Victim Assistance Center & The Broome County Child Advocacy Center present this year's Child Safety Summit on November 7th & 8th, 2024! Expanding to a two day conference, you don't want to miss out on the numerous experts from across the country who work hard to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse material. We have included a tentative schedule below. Tech Safety for Advocates by Matt Barcak, D5 Consulting Group LLC Participants will learn best practices for parents, guardians, and anyone responsible for child safety, covering topics such as peer-to-peer encryption, device monitoring, and how to discuss social media with young people. The training also addresses other important topics in this ever-evolving field, ensuring that participants are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance their organization's cybersecurity posture and protect against data breaches and cyberattacks.2. Technology Facilitated Child Sexual Exploitation & Internet Crimes Against Children by Justin Stevens, ICAC Task ForceThis presentation will be about the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Program & how we support a variety of law enforcement agencies develop an effective response to technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation & internet crimes against children. Learn the history & structure of the New York State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and how we handle a large amount of Cybertip’s that are received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). There will be a discussion on forensic & investigative components, training & technical assistance, victim services, members’ wellness, prevention and community education.3. CSAM Cases: What Every Victim Advocate Needs to Know by Melissa Shaw, NCMECVictim advocates are the lifeline for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) survivors navigating the criminal justice system. This session will highlight the important considerations all victim specialists need to know before working with CSAM survivors. In addition, participants will learn how to obtain vital case information from NCMEC, learn about removing videos and images from the internet, locate specialized counseling and legal assistance, and hear tips from survivors for best possible long-term support and success.4. When Victim Blaming Goes Digital by Sloan Thompson, EndTABAbuse is never the victim's fault - and yet victim blaming persists. In the digital age, the blaming of victims has become amplified and more severe, which impacts how we navigate and address online harm.
