


The zipper, an ideal
connector, has changed little in design
since 1917. It uses teeth that fit
together to join fabric and other flexible
materials. My quilt pays homage to
this ingenious invention with a modern
and elegant twist.

Artists Statement: Physalis alkekengi with its bright and lantern-like fruit
has been used for a wide range of purposes in traditional medicine for around two millennia. Highlighted here are the instantly recognizable orange fruit with other life stages stitched in the background. A bright fall ornament intended to help guide the souls of the dead to their resting place, according to Asian folklore.
