Graduate students, research staff, and postdocs who sign up for talks are able to sign up to judge talks as well, just not in the same hour-long time slot in which you're presenting. You will also not be able to judge other graduate student or postdoc talks. If there are others happening in the timeframe when you're judging, you're welcome to provide feedback, but it will not be taken into account for the final awards.</li><li style="margin:0px;padding:5px 0px 0px;box-sizing:border-box;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-size:14px">Talk topics/details: Talks will be 7 minutes with 2 minutes for questions. The judges will provide written constructive feedback on a scoring rubric. We welcome talks about research across all STEM fields. You're welcome to give a talk about research you're currently conducting or have carried out in the past. If you aren't currently conducting research, you're welcome to present (1) about a primary research study that has been published (not a review) or (2) about another graduate student, postdoc, or faculty member's work, if you get their data and permission to do so. If you have an incomplete project, you're welcome to present potential findings. No need to verbally call out in your presentation that they aren't your actual results, just have a small asterisks at the bottom of slides that contain fake/presumptive data with " *potential, not actual data", or if it's from a published study, just have the citation at the bottom of the slides with their data.</li></ul>These presentations should include:<ol><li style="margin:0px;padding:0px;box-sizing:border-box;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-size:14px">A brief, high-level introduction into the subject and why it's important to study: define the problem/gap in knowledge. Avoid jargon/field-specific terminology.</li><li style="margin:0px;padding:5px 0px 0px;box-sizing:border-box;color:rgb(0, 0, 0);font-size:14px">Identify how you or others approached the problem/filled that gap: outline your methods.
