5th Indic Film Utsav - ALL ACCESS PASS - Dallas Screenings

Indica Pictures has announced a 2-day event called Indica Filmmaker Social in Dallas that encapsulates screenings of 3 award-winning films (to be announced soon), a panel discussion with US-based Indian filmmakers, and a masterclass on filmmaking. The dates are November 16th and 17th, venue being the Galaxy Theaters (Grandscape @ The Colony) where we will screen 3 films (a) Pink Belt, an English documentary film (b) Gandhi Thatha Chettu, a Telugu-language feature film and (c) Outhouse, a Hindi-language feature film.

Indica Pictures, a 501(3)c non-profit is focused on platforming indie filmmakers from all over India. We have been active since 2018 and have accomplished several goals in the space of indie cinema. Our flagship event is called Indic Film Utsav, which is an annual film festival. As a 4-day 24/7 OTT global event, Indic Film Utsav is a film festival that has a world-wide focus. We are in our 5th year which by itself is an accomplishment since 90% of film festivals do not survive past their first year. So far, we have screened 250+ films in 32 languages and garnered a 75,000+ viewership. Besides Indic Film Utsav, we also conduct special events. Last year, we conducted the K Viswanath Memorial Short Film Contest with support from Geetha Arts, Mythri Movies and Durga Arts. The event helped short filmmakers to get in front of major film producers. Year before that, we funded and ran a Photography Grant and Contest that resulted in a coffee table book called Anveshana. Recently, we announced the finalist - Kiranmayi Indraganti, a well-known film academic from Manipal Institute, for the prestigious K Viswanath Documentary Project that we announced earlier this year. As Hyderabad and Telugu Cinema forge to the forefront of the film industry in India, we in the US are also trying to catch a bit of the action. Dallas seems to be that magnet for us! There are many young people and some older (like myself) that nurse a dream to make a film. Almost all of us have day jobs and for many the dreams die a slow death! For those who overcome the initial hurdles and end up making a film, there are other challenges that stop them in their tracks! However, we at Indica Pictures want to change that! While a comparison with Sundance may be certainly far-fetched at this time, our ambition is to become a platform for North America-based indie filmmakers of Indian origin - as a place they can look forward to for ideas, resources and connections!
