Through our 117 chapters, we provide countless hours of community-based health care services and outreach to African American communities across our Nation.
The National Black Nurses Association provides leadership to advance nursing practice, improve health care for all Americans, particularly the un-served and the underserved and shape health policy for the access and delivery of health care services. We are actively engaged in the many issues currently challenging the profession of nursing. There is no better time than now that African American nurses need to work together in their professional association to not only survive, but to prosper in this time of change in the reform of our health care system.

Committee Details
1. Program Committee
- Make recommendations to the Executive Board for activities affecting local Black nurses and health care of the Black community.
- Work closely with members/groups and educational institutions to increase and retain the number of Blacks and other minorities completing nursing programs.
- Assist Black and other minority students in the development of strategies to achieve successful completion of nursing programs.
- Perform other duties pertaining to the office and as requested by the Board of Directors.
2. Membership Committee
- Receive, review, and approve all applications for new members
- Devise ways and means for increasing the membership of the chapter
- Work with Treasurer to ensure excel sheet that is sent to national is updated with new members information
- Perform other duties pertaining to the office and as requested by the Board of Directors.
3. Bylaws Committee
- Periodically review the Bylaws and notify the members of the proposed amendments at least thirty (30) days before the meeting.
- Prepare the amendments for presentation to the membership.
- Review chapter by-laws every five (5) years and make recommendations for changes as necessary.
- Perform other duties pertaining to the office and as requested by the Board of Directors.
4. Health Policy Committee
a. Black Maternal Health Policy Subcommittee
- Initiate, and support desirable health and nursing legislation in the interest of the Black community
- Work collaboratively with health care providers and/or organizations in disseminating information regarding national and/or regional legislative issues.
5. Scholarships & Awards Committee
- Establish and disseminate criteria for submitting candidates recommended for NBNA and the chapter scholarship award and recognition.
- Screen and prepare all necessary information regarding recommended candidates for NBNA and chapter approval.
- Announce selected scholarship and award recipients at the annual meeting
- Perform other duties pertaining to the office and as requested by the Board of Directors.
6. Publicity and Public Relations Committee
- Secure publicity for the chapter and all committee activities through all mass communications systems.
- Be responsible for a Speakers Bureau
- Assist with social media marketing...FB live, IG live
- Reaching out to community via social media DM
- Adding individuals to our social media
- Promote fundraisers and events
- Podcast, collaborate with radio stations
- Virtual Promo
- Perform other duties pertaining to the office and as requested by the Board of Directors.
7. Nominating Committee
- Shall consist of five (5) members elected by Ballot. Term of Office shall be one (1) year. Committee members may serve no more than two (2) consecutive terms
- Notify the membership committee of all elective positions to be filled.
- Screen candidates and prepare a slate of officers and elected committee persons as specified in ARTICLE VII, Section 1.B. and 1.C.
- Perform other duties pertaining to the office and as requested by the Board of Directors.
8. Finance Committee & Fundraising Committee
- Reports to finance chair
- Responsible for fundraising activities to support the chapter financial goals
- Consider and recommend means for securing adequate income.
- Recommend an annual budget to the Executive Board.
- Advise the Executive Board and the chapter concerning investments and other financial business.
- Have all financial records examined at the end of the fiscal year by an accountant
- Perform other duties pertaining to the office and as requested by the Board of Directors.
