This is for a 2 week intensive Spanish workshop for ASL/English interpreters:June 3 - June 13 M-F 3pm - 5pm pSTThis event is virtual This course will be taught by Celena Ponce, a hearing trilingual interpreter with trilingual certification from RIT as well as a minor in Spanish in her bachelors and has State of Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Professional Language Certificate in Spanish.  The other instructor is Erin Sanders-Sigmon.  She is a Deaf interpreter, fluent in ASL, English, Spanish and LSRD (Dominican Republic Sign Language).  Money raised through this workshop will be used to add DIs interpreting the curriculum for us to use with our DHH youth who want to learn Spanish.  As this curriculum has been used previously at Gallaudet, we know it to be Deaf friendly..This course is for ASL/English interpreters to learn basic Spanish. Lessons will use the Destinos curriculum and will cover:Vocabulary<ol><li>Identify and use cognates and family member terms in context. </li><li>Recognize and use numbers (0-21), academic subjects, animals, days of the week, and expressions for telling time. </li><li>Expand knowledge of numbers (0-21), academic subjects, animals, days of the week, and telling time. </li><li>Describe clothing, numbers (21-99), interrogatives, months, seasons, colors, and descriptive adjectives. </li></ol>Grammar<ol><li>Apply the verb ser, articles, grammatical gender, and possessive structures correctly. </li><li>Use hay, estar, and ir appropriately; conjugate and apply present tense regular verbs; correctly use subject pronouns, personal a, interrogatives, and adjectives. </li><li>Reinforce the use of hay, estar, and ir; conjugate and apply present tense regular verbs; correctly use subject pronouns, personal a, interrogatives, and adjectives.</li><li>Differentiate between saber and conocer; conjugate irregular, stem-changing, and reflexive verbs in the present tense; apply possessive structures, demonstratives, adjective usage, and distinctions between ser and estar correctly.</li></ol> Information regarding CEUs:TSID is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for continuing education activities.
