Please join us for the Lexington-Fayette NAACP Branch 3097 Annual Flora D. Mitchell Freedom Fund Banquet. The theme of this year's dinner is "Inspiring Change in a Time ofI Exclusion." As we navigate a political climate that continues to enact policies and legislation that promote marginalization and exclusion of the most vulnerable Americans, often overlooked, forgotten, and peripheralized populations, it is more important than ever to come together, strengthen our resolve, and fight for a future that embraces equity and justice for all. <a href="https://www.lexnaacp.net" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color:initial;user-select:auto;box-sizing:inherit;color:inherit" target="_blank">The Lexington-Fayette NAACP</a> will be honoring members in our community who have been positive forces in uplifting the community. <a href="https://www.kycourts.gov/Courts/Supreme-Court/Pages/5th-Supreme-Court-District.aspx" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color:initial;user-select:auto;box-sizing:inherit;color:inherit" target="_blank">Justice Pamela R. Goodwine</a>, a positive role model, trailblazing leader, and staunch advocate for justice, elected to the Kentucky Supreme Court in November 2024 from the 5th Appellate District and the first woman and fifth Justice to serve at all four levels of the judiciary in Kentucky, will be receiving a special Award of Honor from our branch in recognition of her service and commitment. From calling out instances of racial insensitivity, like Virginia Governor Ralph Northam's use of Blackface, to condemning the burning of Black churches in Tennessee and Louisiana, he has been an unwavering voice for justice. Born in Detroit, Michigan, President Johnson attended Tougaloo College in Mississippi before earning his JD from the South Texas College of Law in Houston, Texas. He has furthered his training through fellowships with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the George Washington University School of Political Management, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). A proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Johnson's career as a veteran activist is defined by his commitment to defending rights and improving lives, whether through advocating for equitable education in Mississippi or pushing for national civil rights reforms. The 2025 Freedom Fund Banquet will be held at the Hilton Lexington/Downtown Hotel, 369 W Vine St., in Lexington, KY.
