Hello Everyone, Want to get this information out to you all so I can start nailing down all the logistical challenges that planning a trip like this entails. I will be providing as many details as possible, but some things will have to be finalized and discussed as it becomes clearer what scouts and adults will be going on this trip. Please keep in mind that there is a limited number of scouts and adults that will be able to go on this trip. Should the need arise there will be a criteria used to determine the scouts and chaperones that will be able to participate.  We have 2 groups that will be able to go, depending on the way everything plays out the groups will either be 9 scouts and 2 adults, or 8 scouts and 3 adults. All that being said lets delve into some of the details that you can expect, and some details that are subject to change and discussion.  I'll be throwing some ideas out, but like I said some of these details will be based on who goes and how we end up getting ourselves up to camp. The Trip will be from July 19th -July 28th, the participating scout will need to be 13 years old by Sept. 1 of 2025 in order to attend. Again, other criteria to go may need to be implemented depending on how many sign up. Main High Adventure offers many unique outdoor opportunities that can include back country canoeing, wildlife observation, backcountry cooking, whitewater canoeing, historical sites, fishing, swimming, star gazing, and rump bumping to name a few. One neat aspect of this trip is the scouts get to decided their adventure upon arrival (although for any adults feel free to help talk them out of any trip with long portages, and one specifically called mud pond portage. I never want to do that again!!) The cost for the actual High Adventure "Trip" is $129 a night, we are on the "Trip" 6 nights ($774 per scout). This includes food, tents, trail equipment, etc. while your scout is on the "Trip". If you have any questions on what gear your scout will need to bring reach out to me.  Please keep in mind there will be additional expenses for transportation, food, camp sites, etc. Here are the details of the entire trip itself, some of these are simply my idea and we can change accordingly as we see fit. Other details in this itinerary are booked and would be more difficult to change.  -Sat. July 19th; Meet at Mt. Carmel Park and ride at 6:30am. Bring a brown bag lunch. We will be driving to Salisbury beach state park (about 8.5 hours away, includes 1.5 hours stopping time if needed). My idea is to drive my truck towing an enclosed trailer that we can use to pack all the gear into. I have a large Blackstone grill, and can feed a large number of people in a short amount of time that will be in the gear trailer. I have planned a menu that can be changed, but these are ideas that I have that I know I can cook in a reasonable amount of time, and avoid having to go out to eat all the time on the travel portion of the trip. Anyway, that night I can grill up burgers and hot dogs along with a big batch of fresh corn on the cob. If we have the energy, and so choose, Salisbury Pier is not far and we could go there to walk around that evening. -Sun. July 20th; Have breakfast and leave the state park. I can make different types of breakfast sandwiches for everyone. Freeport Maine is a 1.5 hour drive from Salisbury beach. If you have never been it has the largest LL Bean store, and is just a neat town to walk around for a spell. That would also be where we would allow time to stop and get some lunch for the day. From Freeport we have a 4.5 hour drive to our next destination in Patten, at Shin Pond Village Campground (the timing of this day needs to be worked out as well; between packing up, breakfast, driving, shopping, lunch, setting up camp, and dinner there is a lot going on ). Dinner at the campground that night will be cooked again by yours truly, and I was thinking about doing up a batch of chicken Fajitas. -Mon. July 21st; We have to be at base camp by 8am this day.  There is a lovely lady at the campground that I have spoken to who is nice enough to get up early and make us all breakfast sandwiches that morning. She ask that I just give her an order a couple days ahead of time, and she'll come in early and make us all breakfast. This would be extremely helpful since we will need to be "up and at um" early that morning. At base camp this day we will be doing a shake down of all our gear, taking a swim test, and planning the trip that we would like to take. Depending on the itinerary picked we will either leave later that day or the next morning. -Tues. July 22nd- 26th PADDLE!!!; We will return to base camp sometime on the 26th. We will clean up and stay the night there. -Sun. July 27th; get up early and depart base camp (I need to find out if they provide breakfast or not), and head for Goose Pond Scout Camp (maybe you all have heard of this place before). We will need to stop for lunch somewhere along the drive. I have talked with Dave (camp leader), and he is willing to work with me and allow us a place to pitch some tents for the night. This is not set in stone yet as he said to call him in early spring and we can work out the details, but we don't need any place special. That night for dinner we can cook up a big pot of spaghetti (easy to cook and noodles won't spoil while we are on our trip so we have have them purchased with all the other meals I'll be cooking ahead of time). -Mon. July 28th; get up and have some pancakes for breakfast,  then high tail it back home so we can all get back to our regularly scheduled lives.   The other major logistical challenge that we will need to work out is how we all get up to Maine. Like I said before this can be discussed and finalized by everyone who signs up and ends up going. However; My thought is taking a number of vehicles and trying to get up by "caravan" could lead to many difficulties, and adds too many "what ifs" to the trip.  I am willing to drive my truck and tow my trailer which would cover the challenge of packing up everyone's gear, and If need be I have seatbelts for 6 total people. My thought was to rent a 15 passenger van for the trip (approximately $2,655, or $121 per person if you divide the total by 22 people), and hopefully we could have a couple of adults that would be willing to drive. Ball Park figure on the total of the trip including the High Adventure, campsites, food, van rental, and gas would be approximately $1,100. Please don't hold me to that number as that could be very different depending on what your scout spends "shopping" in freeport, as well as what gear your scout would need to purchase to have what they need for the trip.   I'm not really going to put a close date for signing up for this trip until final payment is due, but please keep in mind all the things that need to be planned.  The more accurate the number I have, and the sooner I can have it will help us all plan a smooth successful trip. For now this is simply a sign up sheet, but please do so as soon as you can so I can start getting everything sorted ASAP.  Another email reminder will come out in mid February, with payment due by March 15th in the amount of $774. Once the decision on transportation has been made another payment may be needed beforehand as well.
