Diving by the Coast + Boat Rescue Simulation

Suitable for all divers: Open Water "OW" & Higher

Join us on a limited load, 2-tank dive trip along Los Angeles Coast ... with a twist! ... at a crazy good price

SOMETIME DURING THIS TRIP there will be a major (simulated) safety incident. Act as you normally would if you were to witness an accident (or as instructed by the boat crew). Some of you may participate in the simulated incident, some of you may merely observe (and play along). The point will be to make it as real as is safely possible and give everyone onboard some solid insight as to what it feels like to be present for a dive-related incident. It can be sobering and enlightening.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this trip is for dive community safety training & awareness... and exposure to a simulated diving accident.

IMPORTANT:  There will be no supervision of attendees on this trip, either real or implied. The simulation scenario is meant for observational purposes only.

WAIVERS: Sign both Waivers. They are required.
Please do this BEFORE arriving at the boat.

SITES: Along Los Angeles Coast based on conditions/Captain Choice

BOAT LOCATION: Pacific Star: http://www.pacificstardiving.com, 22nd St Landing, San Pedro, CA
Boat is docked behind 22nd St Landing Restaurant. Drop your gear off on the right corner of the restaurant and find parking across the street (free). Please note the daytime vs overnight parking lots below.

**Would-be Car-poolers: Speak up in our Facebook Group: http://FB.PowerScuba.org!

BOARDING: starts at 6 AM and leaves the dock at 7:00 AM.
You may sleep on the boat if you choose starting at 8 pm the night before; docks' door closes at 10 PM. Maintain silence about the decks after 10:30 pm the night before so boat sleepers may get their rest.

BUNKS: first-come, first-served. A drawn curtain means the bunk is taken. Do not draw a curtain or place any bags on a bunk that is not your own. Will need to bring your own pillow and cover.

FOOD

  1. Continental breakfast when you first wake up (6:30 am)
  2. Full hot breakfast on the way out (7-8 am)
  3. Full lunch
  4. Snacks and drinks. Nice!

AIR TANKS: Bring your own tank, free refills. Their compressor fills low-pressure up to 3,000 PSI hot (No HP fills). Please bring 1-tank only as space is limited.

NITROX: Boat fills Nitrox into O2-clean tanks only. $15 per fill. You may bring your own O2-clean Nitrox tank or use the boat tanks (Steel LP72) for no extra charge. Boat tanks as first-come, first-serve and cannot be reserved in advance. You can let them know you need a boat tank once you arrive at the boat.

GEAR: Bring all your own gear including tank and weights.

Cancelation/Refund: http://rules.powerscuba.org

  • Any refund entails a 7% admin charge.
  • If you back out less than 14 days before departure (or "no call, no show") you are on the hook for the money. No refund unless your seat is filled.
  • Two weeks or more = refund mins fees.
  • To back out fully/request a refund, the original buyer must email the name on the ticket(s), number of tickets to be canceled, and the trip date & destination to Refund@powerscuba.org, and mark yourself as Not Attending on Meetup. This is the ONLY way to request a refund. Please don't contact any PS staff through any other means to request a refund.
  • Cancelation/Refund requests can take up to 48 hours to be processed (for the spot to be reopened and issue a refund if applicable).
  • Power Scuba staff are not responsible for trying to backfill a canceled ticket. It is up to the requester to try to advertise the open spot on the event page on Meetup and the group's Facebook/chat.
  • Resell of your ticket is NOT allowed. The only way to acquire a ticket is to RSVP on Zeffy.

Pointers:

  • Bring your certification card.
  • Hydrate really well.
  • Take Bonine if you think you're at all inclined toward seasickness. If you aren't sure... take some Bonine (or similar)!
  • Eat a decent, non-greasy breakfast.
  • Bring something to keep you warm between dives (overcoat, boat jacket, etc).
  • Bring a torch for peering into nooks and crannies.
  • End your dive close to the boat (unless you enjoy long surface swims).
  • ALWAYS bring your diving essentials: A safety sausage, knife, and whistle (at a minimum)!
  • Don't forget to tip the boat crew if they do a good job for you. This one's just as important as any other point on this list. The DM is there for your safety. Take care of him/her!

Boat Etiquette Reminder:

  1. Show up on-time. The boat leaves at 7 am sharp.
  2. Space is limited on a boat. Stow all your gear where directed by crew.
  3. Keep gear out of the walkway
  4. Put your fins on at drop-in point (not forward and then flip flop over people's feet and gear).
  5. Don't rinse your mask or other gear in the CAMERA BUCKET!
  6. Don't clog up the marine head with baby ruth bars or similar.
  7. If you have to puke, do it downwind (leeward).
  8. If you have to cancel, do it well before the cutoff time so Power Scuba has a chance to sell your seat.

**If you aren't completely comfortable with the kind of diving described above, please sit this one out. Your safety is our first concern. There are plenty of shops and instructors who'll be glad to train you up to the level this event requires. Google or visit one in your area.

ADMIN STUFF:

TheVirtual Donation Jar, click here to donate, to cover the cost of maintaining our organization and general fund. It's strictly voluntary but is very much appreciated and needed.

Disclaimer and Clarification

Anyone with a medical condition possibly counter indicative to diving must have a doctor's signature on a diving waiver form and submit a signed form to Bill Powers (or an organizer) before they may attend any Power Scuba event. YOU MAY NOT ATTEND AN EVENT WITH UNDISCLOSED MEDICAL CONDITION. Doing so is grounds for expulsion from the group.

Attending any scuba event Power Scuba facilitates constitutes attendee's affirmation they are medically fit to dive, have read the Terms and Conditions, and have submitted a signed Liability Release to an organizer... and that your buddy (if any) has done the same.

Important Note: It is not the organizer's role to lead your dive. He/she merely facilitates you getting to the pre-dive meeting location. The Organizer will not assign you a buddy nor will he/she be leading the dive as a "group dive". Visibility and liability do not allow for that. When you enter the water, you are on your own. You must plan and execute your dive with your dive buddy only. Once members arrive at the meeting spot, the Organizer becomes simply another diver.

For Boat Dives: few dollars have been added to each person's cost. This is a voluntary donation on your part. This money goes directly into the group's Boat Underage (is that even a word?) fund to protect against non-full trips. No other use is made of this money.

Your participation constitutes your affirmation you agree to these above rules and disclaimers.
