Parry was considered by one of his contemporaries as the finest English composer since Henry Purcell. In our a capella concert, we pair his “Songs of Farewell” – settings of five Renaissance poets and a psalm – with contemporary Jonathan Woody's setting of Nizar Qabbani's “I Conquer the World with Words.” We combine these works with a jazz classic and a motet, all of which embrace a range of the fears, sorrows, hopes and desires we all may encounter. </div>
