Support for Our Friends in Western NC: Rebuilding Communities, Supporting Addiction Professionals On Thursday, September 25th, Hurricane Helene devastated many vibrant and unique communities in Western North Carolina – communities that are home to many of our program attendees. The road to recovery for these towns and their residents will be long, as they work to rebuild and heal from the widespread destruction. Yet, amidst the challenges they face, we have an opportunity to ease their burden and provide critical support. As mental health and addiction treatment facilities in the affected areas focus on reconstructing their damaged infrastructures, their dedicated employees still need to meet their continuing education requirements to provide the best care to their clients. By subsidizing training costs, we can ensure that addiction professionals are able to access the education and resources they need, while also alleviating some of the financial stress as they rebuild their communities. Each day, addiction professionals in Western NC selflessly give back to their communities. They continually put the needs of others ahead of their own, often at great personal and professional cost. Their commitment to the wellbeing of their neighbors, families, and loved ones is unwavering. Now, it’s our turn to support them, so they can continue their critical work. As organizations and individuals in Western NC begin the long journey of recovery, the NC Foundation for Alcohol & Drug Studies is launching a scholarship fund to support addiction professionals in the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Helene. The funds raised will be used to provide partial and full scholarships to professionals in these communities, allowing them to attend our programs, enhance their skills, and earn continuing education credits. Scholarships will cover tuition, hotel accommodations, and other related costs. The cost of full-time attendance for one student is $1,050. Please consider sponsoring one or more students.
