Join us for our very first Delano FANHS Summer Celebration!Our theme this year is &quot;From Our Roots,&quot; which is inspired by the many Filipino American leaders and stories that raised us here in Delano. Our celebration will feature our Summer Academy&#39;s three K-12 youth folk dance teams, Delano&#39;s Fil-Am and Junior Fil-Am Dancers of Delano, and our very first documentary highlighting Filipino American history and culture in Delano. RECITAL INFORMATIONLocation: CCHS Gymnasium at 800 Browning Rd, Delano, CA 93215. Parking is available by the football stadium. A parking and event map will be posted prior to the event.Date: Saturday, July 18, 2026Time: 2:00PMDoors open: 1:30PM FEATURED PERFORMERSWe will be showcasing special guests, the Fil-Am Dancers of Delano and the Junior Fil-Am Dancers of Delano. Then join our FANHS Summer Academy dancers on a tour of the three regions of the Philippines through the following three dances:<ul fr-original-style="text-align: left;" style="text-align: left; box-sizing: inherit;"><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Laga - meaning &#39;to weave&#39;, and symbolizing the unity and solidarity between tribal communities in the Cordillera Region. This social/community dance is a traditional weaving practice serving as the indigenous culture&#39;s identity, heritage, and craftmanship</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Gawaygaway - meaning gabi or taro plant, from Tacloban City in the Eastern Visayas. Known for its vibrant festivals, this occupational dance imitates the work of thrashing and peeping between big gaway leaves.</li><li fr-original-style="" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Kinakulangan - meaning to dance with kini-kini (stylized walk) and payong a diyakatan (decoracted umbrellas). A socio-celebratory dance in the Maranao region, and more specifically Lake Lanao.
