Welcome to the 2026 Friends of Berthoud Pass On-Snow field session registration. If you made it this far and have not completed your liability waiver you must do so now : <a href="https://waiver.smartwaiver.com/e/FwuhPmpgWqY7XwY6vVTBH7/web/" target="_blank">Complete Waiver now</a> Your registration will not be processed if you have not completed a waiver. Registration must be completed for each person attending. You only need to sign up for one day.We ask that all participants carefully read the information about this year’s event and keep an eye out for any communications regarding event changes. Please register using the same name that is on your completed waiver.---------------EVENT INFORMATION To participate you must have attended at least one FOBP virtual or in person avalanche awareness classroom this season-- no exceptions. We will ascend 800 to 1,000 vertical feet and ski through variable snow at elevations between 11,000' and 12,000' with backpacks on. If you have any health concerns or questions about your fitness, please attend to them before registering.Skis, snowboard, or snowshoes (and intermediate to advanced skiing or riding ability for those not on snowshoes) are required. We will be in the field all day. Dress appropriately and bring food, water and extra layers. You will be outside all day. DIGITAL AVALANCHE BEACON, SHOVEL and PROBE are REQUIRED. Transceivers older than five years are not advised. Transceivers more than 10 years old and all analog transceivers are not acceptable. Ski poles that convert to probes are not advised. Be prepared to travel uphill using skins and downhill on skis or snowboard, no bootpacking. Snowshoe participants must travel uphill and downhill on showshoes. Make sure boots, touring bindings, skins, splitboards, snowshoes adjustable poles, etc. all are in working order and adjusted properly before you arrive in the field. Your backpack should be large enough to fit all your required and optional equipment inside it. An insulating layer combined with a waterproof outer shell is advised. We recommend that you have NO cotton apparel or layers. UV-blocking eye protection is important. On cold days a down coat and small thermos of hot tea is a welcome treat. Goggles, hand warmer and spare gloves are part of any good wintertime kit. Don't forget to stay hydrated with plenty of water. Walking around at high elevations will dehydrate you.
