Following the annual spawning under the Full Moon, volunteers will help scientists tag and release approximately 400 horseshoe crabs as part of an important long-term conservation effort. Horseshoe crabs play a vital role in our coastal ecosystem, supporting migratory shorebirds and marine life &mdash; and once you meet them, you&rsquo;ll understand why they&rsquo;re often called the &ldquo;puppy dogs of the bay.&rdquo; This unique hands-on nighttime experience is limited to 40 volunteers and fills quickly each year. Participants should arrive by 10:00 PM at the bayside parking lot at Pikes Beach.&nbsp; Please dress appropriately for shoreline conditions, including insect repellent, waders, waterproof boots or old shoes that you are okay getting wet, warm layers, and rain gear if needed. Headlamps are encouraged. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
