From Expert to Enterprise Leader: Framing Strategic Messages That Move Decisions

Instructors: Chito Hernandez

Abstract

Quantitatively trained professionals often excel at technical depth but may struggle to translate complex evidence, uncertainty, and recommendations into messages that help stakeholders make timely, well-informed decisions.

In this practical 3-hour workshop, participants will learn a simple, repeatable structure for turning complex updates into clear, stakeholder focused messages. Through hands-on exercises and real-world scenarios, attendees will craft and practice a concise strategic message tailored to a specific audience and receive targeted feedback on both content and delivery.

The workshop is designed to strengthen technical rigor by helping participants communicate the implications of their evidence, uncertainty, tradeoffs, and recommended actions. Participants are encouraged to bring a current or upcoming communication challenge, such as a decision, recommendation, emerging risk, resource request, or stakeholder update, to use as their working case. Cases may be simplified, anonymized, or fictionalized to protect confidential information.

Participants will leave with a reusable messaging template and a ready to adapt script they can use in upcoming meetings and stakeholder conversations.

AI-Powered Real-World Evidence for Pharma—from Data to Regulatory and Market Access Decisions

Instructor: Yong Chen

Abstract

How can pharma teams turn real-world data into evidence that advances drug development, demonstrates value, and answers regulators’ and payers’ questions? This practical short course equips pharmaceutical statistics, HEOR, and Medical Affairs teams with an integrated approach to evidence generation across the product lifecycle.

XYZ connects treatments (X), outcomes (Y), and patient populations (Z) to address three business-critical questions: which therapies to prioritize, what benefits and risks to evaluate, and which patients to target. Drawing on experience with Flatiron Health, Epic Cosmos, TriNetX, Truveta, and other EHR and claims data sources, the course shares practical lessons in data selection, study feasibility, endpoint definition, and evidence quality.

Examples from ongoing collaborations include GLP-1 studies for indication expansion and long-term outcomes, mRNA vaccine effectiveness and safety studies, and oncology comparative effectiveness research (CER) and trial optimization through a global federated RWE network. Applications span regulatory evidence generation, health technology assessment (HTA), market access, and medical evidence planning.

Participants will learn how target trial emulation, bias assessment, and federated analytics support credible studies—and how agentic AI can accelerate protocol development, coordinate analyses, and assemble traceable evidence packages for regulatory RWE submissions and HTA, with expert oversight. The course provides a practical roadmap for closing evidence gaps, strengthening value narratives, and translating AI-enabled RWE into decisions that matter to pharma.

Causal generalist medical AI: turning scattered evidence into causal knowledge and clinical action

Instructor: Hongtu Zhu

Abstract

Medical AI has learned to see and to summarize, but not to answer the question

that faces every clinician: what would happen to this patient if we acted differ-

ently? Biomedical knowledge continues to grow, yet it remains scattered across

studies that each reveal only part of the disease process. What has not kept

pace is the causal understanding of disease needed to guide research and inter-

vention. Here we propose causal generalist medical AI (CGM-AI), which links a

dynamic, disease-centric causal knowledge graph (DCKG) with a research and

clinical translation platform in a continuous learning loop. The DCKG brings

together evidence across biological scales, connecting genes, drugs, diseases and

their contexts through causal relationships and shared mechanisms that sup-

port reasoning across conditions and tasks. The platform draws on this evolving

understanding to inform actions in research and clinical practice, while the result-

ing evidence returns to the DCKG to support or challenge claims or revise their

scope. We outline a six-stage pathway in which advances in foundation mod-

els, AI agents, multimodal data and causal inference can strengthen each stage,

while the central aim remains to build causal knowledge that grows through its

use and improves the decisions it informs.
