Don N. Hagist uses thousands of military records and firsthand accounts to show who these soldiers were, why they enlisted, how they adapted to war, and what became of them afterward. The book highlights the wide range of backgrounds represented in the army and brings the story down to the level of individual experience, from long nights on sentry duty to letters written home. Hagist&rsquo;s research makes it clear that there was no single kind of British soldier. Each man carried his own story into the conflict. Don N. Hagist is a leading scholar of the British Army in the American Revolution and the managing editor of the Journal of the American Revolution. His work draws on extensive archival research to uncover the lives of rank‑and‑file soldiers, and he is the author of several respected studies, including British Soldiers, American War and The Revolution&rsquo;s Last Men.
