Join us for our 250th Revolutionary Speaker Series with D The American Revolution was a catalyst for the evolution of American social, cultural, and social dynamics. Dr. Mayer&rsquo;s discussion of these changes will focus on how the place and role of women was affected during the American Revolution. Women fought for American independence with words, actions, and arms. As Loyalists or Patriots, Indigenous, enslaved, free, or slave-owning - women had a responsibility to themselves, their families, and their communities. Women participated in the conflict in complex and varied ways that reveal the critical distinctions and intersections of race, class, and allegiance that defined the era. Holly Mayer, Ph.D., is professor emerita of history at Duquesne University. She served as the Charles Boal Ewing Chair in Military History at the United States Military Academy at West Point 2021-2022 and held the Harold K. Johnson Chair of Military History at the U.S. Army War College 2016-2017. Her work focuses on the social, cultural, and military histories of late eighteenth‑century North America. Her scholarship includes Congress&rsquo;s Own: A Canadian Regiment, the Continental Army, and American Union and Belonging to the Army: Camp Followers and Community during the American Revolution. She has written widely for journals and edited collections, and recently served as editor of Women Waging War in the American Revolution. She is also co‑editor, with David E.
