Over that span we’ve sheltered and created a self-sufficient existence for 13,600+ desperately poor children and their families.To be clear, when we say self-sustaining, we mean it. Due to the high unemployment rate in Haiti, we employ ONLY Haitians to build the villages (we take no volunteers) and buy ALL local materials. We import NOTHING into Haiti. In many of the rural areas where we build our villages the unemployment rate can exceed 80%.Also, we continue to be very involved with domestic homelessness and natural disaster efforts right here in the U.S.A little more about our 30th and 31st village – The Family Village and The HERO Village in Jeremie, Haiti we will start building very soon.This villages will contain a total of 100 solar-powered concrete homes each with a micro-flush toilet + 150 gallon cistern, community center (school, church, clinic), water tank to hold 1000 gallons of clean water, solar power in the community center to include lighting and plugs for phone charging, security perimeter wall, 100 goats (1 per house), 200 fruit trees (2 per house), 200 chickens (2 per house) and entrance sign showing the name of the village. Treman Office Building)Ithaca, NY 14850⌚   On <span contenteditable="false" data-custom-variable="{{date-variable-6e1a2be3-693b-4d4f-add9-1a3eb114db1e}}" fr-original-class="fr-deletable styled-tag-chip " style="background-color:rgb(248, 248, 255);border:1px solid rgb(191, 191, 255);border-radius:4px;color:rgb(42, 42, 196);display:inline-block;margin:0px;padding:1px 8px;font-size:11px;line-height:16px;overflow-wrap:anywhere;user-select:none;box-sizing:inherit">Date You will want to park across the bridge at the South Shelter because that is where our day will end.  If that parking is full then you can park by the main office in that parking lot.   Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to avoid being left behind.  It will not be possible to know the difference between someone who is running late or who could not make it.   Things to Bring:1.  $9 for the paid parking2.  Water for the hike3.  A bathing suit and towel.  There is a swimming hole right next to the South Shelter where we will end our day4.  Additional pair of sneakers.  The trail can be muddy.  The trails are well maintained and every climb has stairs but that being said a good hiking shoe is always nice for maintaining your footing.5.  Sunblock6.  Bug Spray7.  The hike will mostly be under the trees so there will be plenty of shade but a hat can be good for additional protection from the sun and bugs.
