San Diego Postpartum Health Alliance is excited to welcome Tania Beaudoin, MPP, LCSW, PMH-C

Target Audience: Licensed psychologists and therapists, graduate students, allied mental health professionals, other providers who work with new parents and families.

Learning Objectives:

This workshop is designed to help you:

1. Identify the unique stressors faced by military families in the perinatal period.

2. Explain the impact of military lifestyle on perinatal families.

3. List culturally competent strategies for supporting military families.

Course Description:

In this course, participants will delve into the distinctive challenges faced by military-affiliated families, exploring issues such as frequent relocations, deployments, and the psychological repercussions of service-related trauma on both service members and their families. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding how these aspects of military life impact family dynamics during pregnancy and postpartum, including communication patterns, parenting strategies, and relationship dynamics. Participants will also examine the potential for heightened family conflict and mental health concerns in this period.

Moreover, the course will equip participants with culturally competent therapeutic strategies tailored to the unique needs of military families. This includes learning to pose targeted questions about military life to gain deeper insights into mental health challenges associated with military service, offering effective support during transitions, and leveraging community resources designed specifically for military families. Participants will gain practical skills in applying these interventions to enhance the well-being and resilience of military-affiliated families.

Course Level:  Intermediate
