Join us on an autumn morning as Church of the Good Shepherd presents a special one-time screening of "The Philadelphia Eleven" at the wonderful Naro Expanded Cinema in Norfolk. This groundbreaking documentary showcases the struggle of 11 brave women in their quest to become ordained Episcopal priests. Read the synopsis below:
"In an act akin to civil disobedience, a group of women and their supporters organize their ordination to become Episcopal priests in 1974. The Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia welcomes them, but change is no small task. The women are harassed, threatened and banned from stepping on church property.
In this 90-minute documentary film, we meet the women who challenge the very essence of patriarchy within Christendom and succeed in building a movement that transforms an age-old institution."
NOTES:
-When utilizing Zeffy, the charge will show up on your bank statement attributed to Southern Bank, the bank that Good Shepherd uses for its banking needs. When you make a purchase, you're essentially sending money directly to our bank account via Zeffy. So when you donate or buy tickets to the parish picnic, it won't say "Zeffy" or "Good Shepherd" on your bank statement, but instead "Southern Bank."
-Zeffy is a completely free platform that fundraises entirely through donations. Good Shepherd does not pay any fees to use Zeffy. 100% of all your donations go directly to us. However, when you prepare to finalize your transaction, Zeffy will automatically tack on an additional amount, typically 17%, to offset their costs and keep their doors open. This is completely optional. If you'd like to support Zeffy, you can move forward with your transaction. If you don't want to pay the fee, here's what you do: click the drop-down box that says "17%" to the right of their plea (Support the 100% free platform we use! ❤️️), select "Other" and leave the "Contribution" field empty. No worries, you're done.
