In a very real way, they are our forebearers in Christ. It is only fitting that we would make sure our "elders" are cared for, and for this reason, we are giving any money made by the showing of this film back toward the Alaskan Church.</p><p style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit"><br /></p><p style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit">Our parish, Saint Jacob here in Bend, has already been promised donations to make sure we cover our costs for putting on this screening. Everything beyond paying for the venue will go straight to Alaskan priests and their families. And as for the need there, the Diocese of Alaska (of the Orthodox Church in America) has this to say about the need:</p><p style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit"><br /></p><p style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit">The median family income for Alaskan priests is $7,200 per year. That is $26,000 below the poverty line...barely 1/4th of the poverty level. There is a dire need. Almost all clergy and their wives worry about their financially fragile future. Some have been forced to leave the ministry to provide for their families, and anybody would hesitate to join. The diocese is setting up a replenishing endowment so these families can receive a continued boost to their monthly stipends for the rest of their active ministry.</p><p style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit"><br /></p><p style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit">Your donations will go toward this.</p><p style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit"><br /></p><p style="width:100%;margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;box-sizing:inherit">May the Lord bless every dollar you give.
