KAIROS Dance Theater is thrilled to host international actor/director Chiara D'Anna in Boston for the second year in a row! In addition to teaching workshops and classes that are open to the public, Chiara's 2024 Boston Residency includes creating a new, collaborative, dance theatre performance piece with KAIROS dancers, which we will present to the public on March 22, 2024. In addition to the work-in-progress showing of this new work, the informal concert will also include excerpts from Don't You Dare!, Chiara's acclaimed one-woman show. Combining the irrepressible energy of Commedia dell’Arte with biting political satire, Don't You Dare! invites us to reflect on the madness of our world. Drawing parallels between the violence, oppression and indoctrination of the Inquisition, and the hate speech of contemporary politics, Don’t You Dare! weaves a narrative across centuries of attacks on women, the arts, and freedom of expression. The evening's performances will be presented in lecture/demonstration format, offering information on the elements and history of Commedia dell'arte and Chiara's creative process, with an opportunity for the audience to ask questions and engage in conversation with the performers.
