Learn how to skate with Tilted Thunder Roller Derby in this 6-week training program from June 28th to August 5th! This camp is intended for beginner to intermediate level skaters and no experience is necessary. We will train you on stops and falls, agility and maneuvering, and basic blocking and jamming skills. Have no idea what that means? It's okay, we'll teach you everything! This training camp will culminate in a learning scrimmage (positional blocking only) with TTRD skaters to help guide you through, and all campers are allowed to bring 1 guest to the scrimmage. During this program we will train your skills within the context of the RDCL rule set which is the rule set used for banked track roller derby (though this camp will take place on a flat surface at the rink).  Training times are Wednesdays 9:15-10:45pm and Saturdays 7:30-9am at Lynnwood Bowl & Skate beginning on June 28th and ending on August 5th.  This camp is open to women and non-binary people who are comfortable in an environment that centers women, and who are 18+ years of age. Full derby gear (listed below) is required to participate as is some form of insurance coverage (WFTDA is accepted). Loaner gear is available on a limited basis and will be reserved first for those with traditionally marginalized identities. We advise practicing putting on all your gear at home first, but we can totally help you figure it out on your first day. If you have coordinated loaner gear, you will still need to get and fit your own mouthguard ('cause that would be gross to loan out:) ). Please make sure to fit your mouthguard prior to your first training session as boiling water is not available at the rink to do that.  For practices, we can enter the building 15 minutes prior to our start time, and must exit the building within 15 minutes of the end of our practice. On Saturdays, we enter at the side door between the rink and bowling side with our own key. You may enter via the rink side or the bowling side on Wednesdays.  You will be asked to show proof of your insurance coverage at your first session. We will not record any personal information, we will just verify that you have it. Masks are optional at practice and we ask everyone to be respectful of everyone's personal choice to mask or not during practice. Please bring a water bottle to practices!
