NICA On-the-Bike Skills Training 101 This training is ideal for new coaches and is a Level 2 requirement.
Location: Chalco Hills Recreational Area (meet at the Natural Resources Center) Time: 8 AM - 12 PM Cost: $25 (includes training and flip book)
Upon completing On-the-Bike Skills 101 coaches will be able to help teach skills at practices, provide appropriate feedback to student-athletes, and will be able to lead rides at practice.
In this clinic you'll learn the NICA-endorsed training method, which includes the progressive steps needed to teach your student-athletes fundamental mountain biking skills. You will also learn about experiential teaching techniques, how to accommodate different learning styles, and how to create a positive learning environment for young riders.
The intent of this training is to show participants a great example of a NICA practice involving skills instruction and a NICA short course for student-athletes. Attendance at tihs clinic ensures our coaches feel confident and comfortable teaching our student-athletes mountain biking skills. Remember, although you may learn some new skills from the event, the focus is not on enhancing your own mountain biking skills, but instead on how to teach the basic skills.
This clinic will be taught by Susan Reff, a Coach Supporter for the Nebraska Interscholastic Cycling League.
REMINDER:This course includes an online module that can be completed in the NICA learning management system (accessed through the Pit Zone). It is preferred that coaches complete the online portion prior to attending the class. The in-person portion of the training is 4 hours and is held rain or shine, so please bring appropriate riding gear for the weather and your own water supply. Helmets are required and flat pedals are strongly recommended.
