This carving is an artistic abstract representation of the Inupiat. It features a whale bone base, with a white walrus ivory carving depicting a bowhead whale on one side, and a traditional drummer and singer on the other side. In the center there is also a small carving of an ulu, or woman's knife. The black parts of the the carving are made from baleen, and the spout of the whale is made from the hair found on the plates of baleen.
