Be in the know: Employment, Immigration and the Law

Hear the U.S. Department of Labor’s latest updates on workers’ rights and advocacy for immigrant employees, as well as the views of business leaders, immigration attorneys and immigrant service providers, at a free seminar and panel discussion, September 5, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. EST

The Fair Labor Standards Act can be complicated to navigate when dealing with workers’ rights. It can be even more unclear when working with immigrants. The non-profit Coalition for our Immigrant Neighbors (COIN), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), provides a practical overview of the basic standards employers must meet to lawfully employ and protect workers.

A panel discussion and Q&A follow, exploring the issues facing migrant seasonal workers, labor trafficking and child labor abuses, and their prevalence in Indiana. Immigration attorneys, service providers, representatives from the Department of Workforce Development and the Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, specialists in labor trafficking and child labor, and business leaders will all share their latest challenges, strategies, and solutions.

This event is focused on providing practical resources for employers, labor organizations, and service providers. There will be opportunities to ask questions, network, and enjoy light refreshments. The program is hosted by the Jewish Community Center, 6701 Hoover Road, Indianapolis.
