What you need to know:

  • This hike is rated as an easy hike according to OregonHikers.org that being said you will need to be able-bodied to do this hike including the ability to hike from the trailhead to the opening of the cave and down a set of stairs into the cave, and then navigate the dark cave with headlamps and other light sources.

  • Children can participate in this hike but will need to be supervised by a parent or chaperone at all times. Our volunteers will help supervise the group, but it is up to individuals to exercise common sense and be responsible for their personal safety.

  • By registering and participating in this event, you agree to our event liability agreement.

How to get there:

  • Option 1: Northwest Dawah Foundation will have volunteers who will drive brothers on a first come, first serve basis (limited availability) for those who do not plan to drive themselves. We will depart from Abu Bakr Islamic Center, 2 NE 80th Avenue, Portland, OR at 9:00 AM. Please indicate when registering whether you will need a ride. You can also volunteer to drive your vehicle and provide a ride during registration.

  • Option 2: You can drive your personal vehicle and meet us at Abu Bakr and depart with us at the same time or you can go directly to Ape Cave and meet us in the parking lot.

What to bring:     -      Ape Cave is the third longest lava tube (2.5 miles long) in North America and the cave temperature is 42 degrees F/5.6 degrees C year-round.
