His early publications were on the philosophy of quantum mechanics. Like many others who study the quantum theory, he became convinced that consciousness is primary and not reducible to anything other than itself.  His interests then shifted to a study of consciousness per se, especially aspects of consciousness that are, or appear to be, independent of the body (e.g. like the Near-Death Experience).  Neal has published three books, the two more recent ones experimenting with a “dialogue” form of writing in conversation with historical philosophers (Plato, Spinoza) who themselves advocated for a spiritual world-view and way of life.  Dr. Grossman prefers the “conversational” style of writing for its ability to make the ideas easier to absorb, and the opportunity to bring out the sense of humor of the historical philosophers. Neal is now “retired” and living in Evanston, IL. near beautiful Lake Michigan.
