2023 Hmong Dance Program

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This 5-month program starts June 15, 2023, to November 16, 2023.

We offer two levels of dance, Beginner and Intermediate, open to ages five and older.

  • Registration is filled on a first-come, first-served basis upon completing this form and the enrollment fee.
  • The enrollment fee is $125.00 per dancer. After June 21, 2023, this fee is non-refundable.
  • Each dance class must have a minimum of 8 students and a maximum of 20 students. Students will then be placed on a waiting list.
  • Classes will be held every Thursday. Please see below for the time of class.
  • Location: Studio Dance B, 205 Cottage Grove Rd, Madison, WI 53716.
  • In addition to Hmong dance, there will be activities focused on mental health and wellness.
Beginner
This class is an introduction to basic Hmong dance techniques. Students will explore coordination, rhythm, timing, and creativity in Hmong culture. All ages are welcome, though we recommend this class for elementary-aged students.
This one-hour class meets every Thursday from 5-6 pm.

Intermediate
Our goal with this class is to further develop the Hmong dance technique in a fun and energetic atmosphere. Students will explore precision, muscle memory, and dance expression. All students age five and older are welcome, though we recommend this class for ages 11+ unless they have previous experience with Hmong dance. This one-hour class meets every Thursday from 6-7 pm.
Performance
Students will be able to perform a traditional Hmong dance at the end of the program.
Those who decide to participate in the performance will be required to purchase a complete Hmong outfit.

Additional Guidelines
  • Bring a water bottle to dance class.
  • We encourage your dancer to come dressed comfortably in flexible and fitted clothes to be ready to move and safe.
  • Please do not arrive 5 minutes before your class starts as it may disrupt the previous class.
  • Do your best to arrive on time. When dancers show up late, it can be disruptive.
  • Parents are welcome to watch classes but should not participate. In addition, if you need to answer a call or talk to another person while a class is in session, we ask that you please step outside to do so, as it may be distracting.
  • If, for any reason, dance class is canceled, parents will be notified via e-mail by 10 am that day.
  • Last but not least, HAVE FUN!
