Step into the Wind River country to explore the fascinating contrast between Gilded Age ambition and frontier conflict. Before departing Riverton, learn about the hallowed grounds of the Bates Battlefield. This trek takes you to the legendary Lost Cabin, the desert empire built by "Sheep King" JB Okie. You’ll explore the grounds and tour his grand stone mansion, an architectural marvel of its time. An optional hike (roughly 2 miles of moderate hiking) up to the rugged heights of Battle Butte. (Option to stay for a tour and presentation of the old Lysite School House as an alternative.) It is a day dedicated to the entrepreneurs and warriors who shaped the spirit of central Wyoming.
