During the event, the UNIDIR Middle East WMD-Free Zone Project will launch the Project’s new online tool, “The Middle East WMD-Free Zone Compass: Mapping Official Statements.” The event will feature opening remarks by UNIDIR Director, Dr. Robin Geiss and EU Special Envoy for Non-proliferation and Disarmament, Ambassador Stefan Klement, followed by a presentation by the UNIDIR Project team and a discussion with senior diplomats and experts. Panellists will include: M. Almuntaser Albalawi, Researcher, Middle East WMD-Free Zone Project, UNIDIRM. Mohamed Gamal Ahmed Elghitany, Counsellor, ‎Permanent Mission of Egypt, GenevaAmbassador Taher El-Sonni, Permanent Representative of Libya to the United Nations, New York, and President of the Fourth Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass DestructionAmbassador Adam Scheinman, Special Representative of the President for Nuclear Nonproliferation, United States of America The event will be moderated by UNIDIR Head of Project, Dr. Chen Zak Kane. A light lunch will be provided at 12:45 (CEST). Delegates attending the NPT Preparatory Committee are invited to attend in person and do not need to register (the event will take place in Room XXV, UNOG). Please note UNIDIR does not assist with access to UNOG.
