Her doctors think her cancer reacted so well because they believe she had both hepatocellular carcinoma – which does NOT react well to chemo, and hepatoblastoma – most commonly found in kids and reacts WELL to chemo. We had a whole year, living carefree, trying to put the past behind us. Fast forward to this January 2023, her scans came back, and they had found a mass on her diaphragm. She had a second surgery to remove the mass, and immediately she started chemo. About 6 weeks in, her AFP (tumor marker) counts were still rising so she was rescanned. I was very hopeful that Addy was cured, it was just a simple surgery? Following Addy's scan we met with the Oncology Team and they explained their findings to us, confirming our worst fears had come true. Addy's cancer has returned and it had metastasized into her lungs. April 2023, Addy was diagnosed with stage 3 metastatic Hepatocellular Carcinoma. As there is no known information on this disease in children, she is short on options.
