In the 1970s James Tenney composed a series of eleven postal pieces - scores that were created and printed on postcards, written for dear friends and colleagues. These each focus on a single concept, be it form, acoustical property, or gesture, and were aptly suited to the musician they were written for. In 2020, <a href="http://www.southlandensemble.com" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="color:inherit;text-decoration:inherit;user-select:auto;box-sizing:inherit" target="_blank">Southland Ensemble</a> cellist <a href="https://www.jenniferbewerse.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="color:inherit;text-decoration:inherit;user-select:auto;box-sizing:inherit" target="_blank">Jennifer Bewerse</a> composed her own series of postal pieces that were then mailed to the friends and colleagues they were created for.
