Hi friends! Charlotte Roller Derby is holding a summer intake program for new players called Fast Track to Derby. This means we are hosting a weekly class for skaters who want to learn how to play roller derby. Our goal is to get you ready with all the derby knowledge and skills to join our league practices! What to expect: This is an intermediate course, so we are expecting a mild-to-moderate level of skating experience from participants. This means simply being comfortable skating at the rink session and being able to stop yourself without the use of walls or steps. Most of our focus will be around roller derby, and the skills and knowledge required to become a skater or referee.  Our classes will look something like this: On Thursday nights, we’ll get together at the skating rink (our class of newbies and dedicated trainers) and stretch as a group off skates, then we’ll all gear up and warm up on the rink at 8:00. After which our trainers will introduce our curriculum for the day, open up the floor for any questions, and then break into smaller trainer-led groups where we can work more individually to learn the skill for that day. Gear Rental is available upon request. Please contact join@charlotterollerderby.org for more details or to organize gear rental after signing up.  There is a $100 gear deposit for borrowing gear for the duration of the program, fully refunded after gear is returned to CLTRD.
