This September, the North Carolina NAACP gathers in High Point for the 83rd Annual State Convention to answer that question together &mdash; as members, branch leaders, youth and college advocates, clergy, elected officials, and neighbors from every corner of the state. Convened under the leadership of State President Deborah Dicks Maxwell &mdash; the first woman to lead the North Carolina State Conference &mdash; and Conference Chair Gerry McCants, this year&#39;s convention arrives at a defining moment. With voting rights under renewed legal attack and a pivotal midterm election ahead, &quot;We The People&quot; is a call to reclaim the Constitution&#39;s opening promise for every North Carolinian, and to turn that promise into organized, sustained action. Over two days, delegates will move through plenary sessions, issue-focused workshops, branch business, and a Freedom Fund celebration &mdash; all built around the NAACP&#39;s enduring mission: to secure political, educational, social, and economic equality; to eliminate race-based discrimination; and to protect the civil and human rights of all people. Attendees can expect candid conversation on the state of civil rights in North Carolina, hands-on training for branch leaders and officers, youth and college programming, and space to reconnect with the statewide NAACP family.
