While continuo players typically enjoy a lot of freedom in their playing, this concert features works from the Bach circle with obbligato (obligatory) keyboard or viola da gamba lines. One might even think of these written parts as constraints that replace the traditionally improvised continuo part in the bass. Many of these works with obbligato parts were adaptations or arrangements from other works. This concert will feature some 18th-century arrangements as well as several of our own inspired by 18th-century models. The program will include a performance of Bach’s cantata Ich habe genug, with mezzo-soprano, oboe, fortepiano, and gamba, in the kind of prescriptive version C.P.E. Bach would have created for a performance at home instead of in church.

We will be performing at The Allen Center located at the intersection of Webster and Cherry Streets in West Newton.   The GPS address is 35 Webster Street although there is no parking on site on the Webster Street side.  There is limited parking in a lot on the Cherry Street side of the building, holding 25 cars.  In addition, there is on-street parking on Webster Street, as well as at 492 Waltham Street, one block away, at Family Access, or in a municipal lot between Cherry and Elm Streets.   Andrus Madsenandrusmadsen@yahoo.com
